„Geology on the move“
Immerging into the exciting and fascinating world of minerals and crystals – this was possible during the “geology on the move” tour, which led through the Austrian states from end of October till beginning of November.
Interactive guides through the truck with small experiments and vivid descriptions explained which remarkable characteristics crystals and minerals have and why our modern everyday life would not be possible without them. The worth seeing exhibits ranged from gemstones to real structural components of space ships. Even outside the truck were further possibilities for discussion, interactive stations and a lot more to learn about the topic minerals.
Initiator of the show is the mineralogist Mag. Robert Krickl, who toured through the Austrian states in the context of the “International year of planet earth” of UNESCO. The road show was executed under the auspices of the ministry for science and research and of the Austrian national committee for earth science. The tour reached its ending at the “long night of research” in Vienna on 7th November 2009, where it was awarded with the "Lupe price for outstanding communication of science" as the best out of 159 stations all together.
